Foodie penpals

Hey Y'all!
This month I participated for the first time in the Foodie Pen Pals swap at The Lean Green Bean, I found the blog as I was blog hopping using that little "next blog" button at the top of a lot of blogs,  one night as I was bored I just kept hitting that little button and when I saw the title of the blog I stopped to check it out, and found...A SWAP!... Y'all know how I love a swap.
The way it works is you get a person to send to and a person who will send to you, not the same person that way you get to meet 2 new people :)
It has a HUGE following I think I read over 3000!  So whatcha do is email and get to know them a bit, follow whatever diet restrictions they have and fill a box with $15.00 worth of food items suited to your partner.
Tess is who had me, her blog is Cross Country Cajun, she is such a sweetie!
I told her how I love to try "regional" favorites and how I lean to sweet over salty, well the box she sent was so full of yummy goodness, suited perfectly for me!
She is from south Louisiana and picked a Gumbo mix and creole seasoning!
Perfect for me and Lee, I just need a nice cool day and we will be eating Gumbo!
A harvest grain blend, that was so good, it was a blend of Israeli Couscous, Orzo, Red Quinoa and Baby Garbonzo Beans. I added shrimp as was suggested on the package and we devoured it!
I am making it again tomorrow night. And a starbucks cool lime refresher.
Ok let me just say that Tess really does "get me"
She made me some Almond Raisin Granola!
Homemade is always the best in my book and this granola made with (a local to Tess) honey, is so good! It is the best granola I have EVER tasted, I don't see how I can ever go back to a box mix the flavor is perfect.
The Sugar, chocolate and coffebean grinder...I am in LOVE!
It is awesome over vanilla ice cream! I am waiting for a cool crisp day to try it in hot chocolate.
The fig butter...have I lived under a rock, how have I never had it before!
AND THEN she included a few goodies for me. A cute as can be potato peeler, a monogram mug, if y'all don't know we southern girls love just about anything  with our monogram and some napkins to make an ordinary day a bit more special :)
Thank You So Much Tess!! You sent a box full of yummy goodness!

This was such a fun swap! I have already signed up for September.

The box I sent went to Pam in Utah, her blog is Scrumptious Bento
if you would like to meet her and see what I sent.

16 years ago today we stood before our family and friends.
Portlock United Methodist Church

Was I really that young...
wearing mom's earrings and pearls.

We said "I Will"
I will promise to love you in sickness and in health.
I will love you for richer or for poorer
I will take you as mine, to love and to honor and to cherish
until death we do part.
I love you Lee!
You are my heart.
Happy Anniversary.

Art Journal

Hey Y'all how are you today?
I am worn out here today, I have been working nights since Sunday setting up the toy department for the holidays and my hiney is 1 more night to go! Hopefully we will be 100% finished tonight and only 1 day over the schedule for getting it done.
So about 2 weeks ago the amazing Jenny and Aaron at Everyday Is A Holiday announced that they were offering a FREE Art Journal Class!
I seriously love those 2 and I jumped at the chance to learn from them.
For some reason I have yet to figure out, the idea of creating an art journal has intimidated me for a LONG time. I have had a composition book and a sketch book I have picked up and put down more times than I can count, every time I go to start, I get all nervous and can't do it. CRAZY! SO
when they offered to teach I said count me in.
So here are my first pages.

Today is class number 2, I will either be asleep or at work when today's class gets posted, so tomorrow I will be playing at my crafty desk!
Thanks So Much Jenny and Aaron!

Jo Fluke

Hey Y'all, How are ya today?
So as many of you know I am a voracious reader and have been for most of my life. My parents instilled a love of reading in me almost from birth. When I was small we had a bed time EVEN IN SUMMER! It was sheer TORTURE  to have to go to bed when the sun was still up! So our compromise was that I had to stay in bed, but I could read until I fell asleep or it got dark outside...thus began a life long love affair with the written word. Which brings me to sharing with you one of my favorite authors. Joanne Fluke.
Have you read any of her books? She writes about  Hannah Swensen who runs a cookie shop called the "Cookie Jar" in (fictional) Lake Eden, Minnesota. Oh that Hannah, and the adventures she has. In every book there are mouth watering recipes. I can tell you I have made several of them and I have never been disappointed! The first book I read was Blueberry Muffin (3rd in the series) and Oh my stars are those muffins the best! I think I have made at least one treat from every book so far. If you have not read any of her books I recommend you start at the beginning with " Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder"  and make the Chocolate Chip Crunches to nibble as you read ;) If you like a good murder mystery, you will love Hannah and her crew.

This photo is missing a few titles, but you get the idea :)

I have every one of her books **except the recipe book** and I do adore each and every one of them.
So if you pick up one (or all of them.)
Let me know, I would  Love to talk about them with you!
On another note, I am thinking about hosting a monthly informal book club, would that be something,
you are interested in?

*Nope, not compensated in any way, I just LOVE Jo and her books.

Finally Friday!

Hey Y'all, how are ya this Hot August Friday?
I am tired here in Virginia. We had inventory at my store this week and it was a doozy.  I have to work overnight a few nights coming up so we can re-do the toy department to get it ready for the holiday season.
So today I am gonna enjoy my day off and just piddle. Tomorrow if the rain stays away I am going to take myself down to the county fair. I'll let you know if I get to go :)
Today I wanted to share my Tag-A-Month tag with ya. Again I want to remind you there is still PLENTY of time left if you want to join in. Thanks Tee for hosting such a fun year long swap!
This month my swap partner is Fran at The Bagg lady. She is a sweet and creative lady! I hope she likes my tag for her. This month the theme was Sun or Bathing Beauty, I picked the Bathing Beauty theme.
I wish I could remember where I found this image, I forgot to make a note of it, but I thought she made the perfect Bathing Beauty.of course I had to add some sparkle to it!
I think almost everything I make has some sparkle on it.
I hope she likes it :)

Pink Saturday

Hey Y'all how are ya today? Doing ok  in Virginia today.
We got to have dinner with the Squirt and the Chickie Baby and their parents tonight, which is a treat for us. I love my little's and their folks and love spending time with them. Lee went too, which is very rare for him, he was having a pretty good day today and went with me. Spending time with the little's makes everything better. They are truly my heart!
Ok On to PS and the LOVEY Beverly. Thank s for hosting us and PLEASE go here to visit all the pinkies!
So (as I stand on my soap box for a moment, just please indulge me!) what the heck has happened to nice paper?

I know, I know Email, Twitter and Facebook, Texting and Skype happened! I Know. Not that there is not a place in life for those forms of communication, I am thankful for them.
As many of you may know I love to write letters, real pen to paper letters. I had quite a stash of note pads and papers from years of writing, now that stash is depleted, so I went looking for note pads and stationery sets. What a rude awakening! $9.00 for 18 sheets of paper. CRAZY and I just can't justify spending that now a days.
So I have been looking in thrift stores and yard sales...I found one box for a dollar, but I have used all of it already. Some times I make my own, but when I write a letter, I just want to write, I don't want to have to make my paper first, and I am a craft as I need it type of gal, so I rarely have cards/paper etc...on hand.
I LOVE the feeling writing a note on pretty paper gives me.
I just can't afford it at these crazy prices. Looking online is either to "cheapy" or too expensive.
Never fear I am still on the hunt, there is a yard sale a few houses down tomorrow...
until then I will have to make do with this poor substitute...
Well at least it's PINK!

Have a great day and if you know of a supplier for great paper that doesn't cost a fortune, PLEASE let me know.

Sweet Helena!

Hey Y'all,
Sorry to have been away for so long, I have been busy, then under the weather, then Lee has been feeling not so hum) so I am late getting to everything! My tag to Helena did get mailed on time but nothing else. I have barely been online  to keep up with y'all. My sweet blogging sister and all my giveaway winners still have packages sitting here...SAD, SAD, SAD! I promise to get to the post office by Friday and get everything out to y'all!
So I wanted to share the tag that Helena made for me :)
This was her first tag and I think she did a good job! I LOVE the butterfly on the back ;)

Thanks Helena!
